Celebrating Chinese New Year

Here's a picture taken at my grandmother's place when we celebrated our Reunion Dinner on the eve of Chinese New Year. The tradition of the Reunion Dinner is very much akin to Thanksgiving celebrations, where family members from all over would come back to celebrate Thanksgiving over dinner. We spent the first day of Chinese New Year visiting relatives, and showing baby Kinnon for the first time to some of them. We started the day back at my grandmother's place where I got to catch up with the rest of my cousins.

Another tradition of Chinese New Year, (other than the culinary goodies) is the giving of red packets (with cash in them). All married couples have to give out red packets, and all children get to receive them. This is Kinnon's first Chinese New Year celebrations and it was quite a joy receiving red packets (on his behalf). Of course, I think it will take some time before he understands the significance of all these.

Waiyan and Larissa come to visit

Waiyan and Larissa came over to visit Kinnon today and shot a couple of pictures. Larissa looks with snug with Kinnon in the picture and I think it is matter of time before she wants to get her own baby.

Waiyan and Larissa have been very close friends of us. I have known Waiyan since Princeton, and it so happened that we went to Stanford for our graduate studies at the same time. We ended up sharing an apartment and having lots more adventures together.

With Cousin Caitlyn

okay, here's a picture with cousin Caitlyn, Allison's first born baby girl. Both of them don't look too thrilled, but this is my best attempt to make this a really sweet picture.  Posted by Picasa
